Below is a note from our Parks & Rec Department to let you know why it is necessary for the City to close the Athletic Fields in our parks during certain times of the year; to ensure safe playing conditions for the athletes, as well as to maintain the fields in the best, and most cost-effective ways possible. Thank you so much for your understanding and cooperation! We know as the weather gets better, its hard not to be anxious to play on those fields, but we appreciate your adherence to these rules!

  • Adult Writing Club March 21, 2024  7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

*For March they will meet on the third Thursday.

    Adult Writing Group

The SCBWI Logan, Utah critique group meets at 7:00 pm on the second Thursday of every month at the North Logan Public Library located at: 475 East 2500 North. The library kindly allows us to meet after their usual closing hours. SCBWI stands for: Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators.

As writers, we meet to discuss children’s literature and critique manuscripts for Picture Books, Early Readers, Chapter Books, Middle Grade, and Young Adult literature. Attendees are invited to bring several copies of up to 5 pages (double spaced) of any of these works. Generally, the author reads the work, and then the other writers list things they liked about it as well as things that might be improved.

Although the writing is for children, this critique group is for adults, but membership in SCBWI isn’t necessary. We are a small group, and we occasionally have to make last minute changes, so it’s a good idea to get on our email list. Contact Laura Nielsen at laura.f.nielsen@gmail.com for more information.

  • Miss Wendy's Reading Tip and Tricks for Parents March 21, 2024  7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

*This is a free class. Sign-up coming soon.

Wendy Pedersen has been a Montessori-trained, private reading tutor for over 35 years—teaching many students ages 4 to adult. She is also the author of 18 phonetically correct beginning reading books for children. She has

designed a special reading phone for children that looks like a cell phone. This helps children hear their voices clearly and a little louder as they read, increasing reading fluency and focus. She has experience working with home-school and public school children and their parents and has assisted in working with schools on behalf of her students. As a dyslexic herself, she understands learning disabilities intimately. She has done substantial research on

how learning disabilities affect the reader, as well as researching the best teaching approaches for this and other learning styles.
